Facebook serves most videos in two grades. SD is the mobile-friendly version: small files, fine for a phone screen, quick on slow connections. HD — 720p or 1080p depending on the upload — is what you want for a TV, a projector, editing, or archiving. File sizes stay modest either way because Facebook compresses heavily; a five-minute HD clip is usually well under a hundred megabytes. Whatever you choose, the audio is embedded in the MP4, so the file plays anywhere without extra steps.
One honest limitation: we can only download public videos. Content shared with friends-only or group-only privacy settings is exactly that — private — and a legitimate downloader won't bypass it.

For livestream replays, move fast. Streamers delete replays more often than you'd expect, and Facebook's own retention for some content is shorter than its feed suggests. If a replay matters — the wedding, the graduation, the town meeting — download it the same week. On mobile, prefer Wi-Fi for HD. Facebook's HD files are efficient, but a ten-minute video is still a ten-minute video. And a final organisational habit: Facebook downloads arrive with unhelpful numeric filenames, so rename as you save. "mum-60th-speech.mp4" is findable next year; "284710294.mp4" is not.
